• Ground Water utilization in the state as per latest assessment is around 42% which is less than safe extraction limit of 70% and there is scope for further utilization of ground water.

• For sustainable harnessing of ground water, the State Government has started a scheme “BKVY- Deep Bore Well Secha Karyakrama” (BKVY-DBSK)- Sustainable Harnessing of Ground Water in water deficit areas of the State during the year 2010-11 with an objective to provide irrigation facilities through installation of Deep Bore Wells on online application system.

• The Scheme covers to 256 blocks in 26 districts in hard rock areas of the state.

• Each Deep Borewell can provide irrigation to approximately 05 hectare of land in Khariff season & 2 hectare in Rabi season with unit cost of Rs. 3.88 lakh.

• The State Government is providing huge subsidies under this scheme where the beneficiary share for SC/ST farmers under BPL category is Rs. 10,000/- (around 3% of project cost) and for the General category farmers Rs. 20,000/- only (around 6% of project cost).

• Power supply is being made available with a dedicated transformer on Cluster basis of 4 to 5 Deep BWs.

• Solar-powered Deep Borewells are being done in remote areas and non-cluster Deep Bore Wells where 1853 nos are completed.

• Priority is being given to the blocks having less than 35% of irrigation.

• Since inception 96,985 Deep Bore wells with irrigation potential of 5,54,330 Ha. have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.

• During the financial year 2021-22, 14054 Deep Borewells have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries.

• For the financial year 2022-23, an outlay of Rs. 305.25 Cr has been provided in the budget with a target to complete 10000 Deep Bore Wells.
