West Odisha Development Council has been formed to eliminate regional disparities in the state. The said Council consists of Angul (Athmallik sub division), Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Sundergarh districts of the state. Raised water irrigation projects are being established for the improvement of the said districts.
The list of irrigation projects (new projects or rehabilitation of old projects) is submitted to the Council by the Honorable MLAs. After the projects are approved by the Council, the nearest Irrigation Officer starts surveying the project.Successful projects are evaluated by the Irrigation Executive and a Comprehensive Project Report (DPR) is prepared and sent to the Council. The Council considers the same and approves the project and approves the funds. Once the grant is received, the work begins. After the completion of the project, the responsibility is transferred to the farmer committee.
